TELL ME ALL. 5, 6, 18, 20, 23 for vidya gaems

5) A popular series/game you just can’t get into no matter how much you try?

Legend of Zelda. I have the newest 3DS titles, both ocarina of time and a link between worlds but I juuust don’t get it. It’s not how I grew up.

6) A game that’s changed you the most?

Elder Scrolls. Storytelling through action, immersion and passive world interaction. SILT STRIDERS. THE TRIBUNAL. THE IMPERIAL CITY. TAMRIEL. JUST FUCKING TAMRIEL.

I mean, it has it’s issues. Elsweyr is a dumb-as-shit name and the comedic content somewhat falls flat in some areas but the entirety of the universe is how one makes an engaging game with engaging stories which make you care about hte universe it’s in. We all know who Dovahkiin is, we all know how to find the idiot mage who falls to his death in Morrowind. We love the Guilds, we love/hate the Adoring Fan or Cicero.

These titular pieces of these games tie into it’s hundreds upon thousands of pages of lore and written fiction-within-fiction that I absolutely adore and wish I had the money to make.

My grandmother died earlier this year. She loved it when I played Skyrim and let her listen. She loved me reading the lore books and listening to the quests progress. She passed down a big love of reading to me as she raised me more than my own mother ever did and for that Elder Scrolls is gonna always be my biggest influence.

It’s helped me go through a lot of shit. It’s why ESO sucking hit me really hard and I hate it nearly violently. It took all those things that made it an escape and a calming experience.

But every so often I’ll start up Skyrim, Morrowind or Oblivion and I’ll run off into the distance of Tamriel and re-live all those years gone by, the inspiring of the music, environments and the thousands of stories inevitably inspires me.. and it’s what helps me when I need to RP or write.

It’s a very cathartic experience.

18) A game you wish your friends knew about?

Tabula Rasa. A rich, intense sci-fi MMORPG which had everything that made WildStar good.. but years ago. It came out when City of Heroes was around so the niche market was mostly filled up and it did exceptionally poorly because NCSoft tried to fight Richard Garriot for the creative rights he 100% owned.

Eventually his team put out the final update to the game a few months before launch. DNA cloned hybrids, guns, explosions, the best PvP to date (twitched based!) the GAME’S CREATOR ROLEPLAYED, bipedal mech mounts, FIGHTING ALIENS ON EARTH, the alien bad guys were crustacean and the allied human-alien forces called them “Crusty” in shorthand. It had EVERYTHING going for it.

It remains my favorite MMORPG to date, underneath WildStar and World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade.

20) What was the first video game you ever played?

The first games I played:

Home Console: Sonic the Hedgehog 2

Arcade: House of the Dead

Handheld: Pokemon Blue version.

23) Biggest disappointment you’ve had in gaming?

Project Titan, Warcraft Adventures and Starcraft: Ghost.

Chris Metzen, get your shit together. Stop jerking Thrall off, leave WoW behind and make good on a promise for once.

denizenblue asked:

#s 2, 3, and 4. Three of my favorite questions to ask other gamers.

2) Company you’re always loyal to?

Valve (nothing wrong. I fucking played the SHIT out of Ricochet) and BioWare. Even Dragon Age 2 was worth it’s price even if it was unfinished trash.

3) Best game you’ve ever played?

The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. MORROWIND. FUCKING MORROWIND. DUNMER. THE ART DESIGN, THE BEAST DESIGN. THE BEASTS. BONE MOLD ARMOR. ALL OF IT!

It’s aged well and was the most free, intriguing, immersive and unique Elder Scrolls game since. I spent over 350 hours in it as a kid and revisited it a few years ago and have a total of 600-something.

I am waiting for Skywind to be fully released so I can do so again.

4) Worst game you’ve ever played?

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified

It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever played it was just utterly loveless and uninspired. The XCOM games as a shooter had a lot of potential and those kind of ultimate difficult strategy games were absolutely filled to the brim with the love of the people who made them and a true challenge.

The Bureau, conversely, was an absolute cash grab with enough cliches to fill a Scwarzenegger flick and none of the charm. The main character was a cardboard cut-out and the only interesting people were the pilot, the woman and the old guy.

What makes it the worst game is the lack of any love. I honestly believe that it was just re-done so many times that it lost all of the charm and pizazz that the XCOM series is known for. Instead it just became a turd that fizzled into nothingness.
